Happy International Women’s Day
Today is International Women's Day 2020. Now more than ever, we need to tap the deep well of latent talent in our communities rather than merely skim the surface.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #EachforEqual. I was recently asked by the City Women Network (CWN) for my take on what this means. I am proud to be part of the CWN, which is one of the longest-standing women’s networks in the UK. Through a range of stimulating activities and partnership events, the CWN provides a collegial environment where members can grow their professional networks and succeed through collaboration.
Here are my thoughts on the International Women’s Day 2020 campaign theme #EachforEqual.
#EachForEqual reminds us that we all have a part to play in bringing about gender equality. It is about the personal things that we choose to do as much as having collective responsibility for recognising, developing and valuing the potential in others, regardless of gender.
For me, living #EachForEqual is an ongoing commitment. It is an individual as well as a societal choice to make if we wish to benefit from communities that are enriched by widespread engagement. It will take resolute and purposeful effort to encourage the necessary shift in mindset and behaviour. Keeping our eye on the prize will motivate and embolden us. Our reward will be the chance to tap a deep well of latent talent across the genders rather than merely skim the surface.
Given the challenges that we face as well as the undoubted opportunities that lie ahead, we need to activate the whole of human ingenuity and endeavour so that we can reach for a better brighter future together.
