A spring in your step

Here it is at last; spring.  Can you feel your energy rise as the days lengthen and the sun shines more?  Do you hear the birds singing as you wake, and as you come home from work?  Are you noticing the flowers bud, the blossom bloom?

We are mammals and so winter biologically, should be a time to hibernate, to snuggle down and snooze but our 24/7 culture doesn’t allow for that, neon lights and long work hours mean we often stagger through winter getting more tired and run down.

So many of us are disconnected from our natural world that we lose the wisdom in it and in ourselves, yet if we stop and stare, pause and gaze, what do we see and hear?

The joy in the bird song mirrors our sense of relief at the passing of the dark days. But look more closely at the picture above and you will see amongst the flowers the old autumn leaves, a reminder that new life, new ideas, new opportunities often emerge from what has died or grown old.

The birds are building nests, the frog spawn is only slowly hatching, the lambs in the fields are sticking close to their mothers.  Spring reminds us to emerge slowly, to keep tending to our health, to look to each other for safety and support.  Spring reminds us to take new ideas, new projects, maybe new relationships, slowly, gently, kindly.

We don’t need to leap into full throttle yet, we can slowly emerge and unfold, let the dreamings and musings of winter fully compost in readiness for a summer that will come and with it full light.

What does spring want to teach you?

Take 10 minutes a day in the same place outside, and tune in to the birds, the flowers, the weeds, the insects and be curious about how they change as the days lengthen.  What does this mean to you? For you?

Coach, author, podcaster, facilitator, Yoga and psychology teacher, learner

I have over 30 years of experience and qualification in various therapeutic and meditation/mindfulness based approaches. I work with change. Some changes we chose, others happen to us.  Sometimes we know we want to change but don't know how. Sometimes we don't want to change but external events or people are forcing us to change. The menopause, children leaving home, the end of a relationship or job, becoming a parent, coming out, bereavement are just some of the personal changes I support people with. I also work with people who want to make changes to their life and wider world in response to social issues such as Covid, the climate crisis and racial, sexual and gender inequalities. Times are changing whether we want them to or not and we need to be nimble, agile, curious and open in order to part of the new story emerging. Work with me to get clear on what matters to you, what makes your heart sing and what kind of future you want for yourself and those you love. It is possible to live differently, get in touch to explore how.
