New novel by To Kill a Mockingbird author to be published

The woman who famously only ever wrote one novel is about to publish a second. Author Harper Lee, now 88 years old, has agreed to allow a book she wrote in the 1950s to be published for the first time this summer. Itโ€™s to be a sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, a now classic novel about racism and justice in the American Deep South.

Weโ€™ve always had a soft spot at Psychologies for the novelโ€™s narrator, Scout, and her wise lawyer father, Atticus Finch, so we canโ€™t wait to see what happens in the sequel. What we know so far is that in Go Set A Watchman, the new book, Scout is all grown up and returns home to Alabama from New York to discover new challenges awaiting her.

‘She is forced to grapple with issues both personal and political as she tries to understand both her fatherโ€™s attitude toward society, and her own feelings about the place where she was born and spent her childhood,’ said William Heinemann, who published the first novel and will release this sequel.

While we wait, letโ€™s enjoy a moment from the 1962 movie starring Gregory Peck as Atticus, when he teaches Scout that timeless lesson that to really understand a person, you need to walk a little while in their shoesโ€ฆ
